Best JET Guitars Under $500, by Genre

Picking a first “real” guitar or a second one for a specific style usually comes down to two things: pickup configuration and body construction. JET’s sub-$500 lineup covers both ends of that decision, from single-coil chime to mahogany-and-humbucker weight, so instead of one generic “best budget guitar” pick, here’s a rundown by genre.

Best overall beginner / genre-hopper: JET JS-300

The JS-300 runs three ceramic single-coils (SSS) through a 5-way switch, so it covers clean, blues, funk, and light rock tones without needing pedals to sound right. Roasted poplar body, Canadian roasted maple neck, 22 frets, vintage-style tremolo. If you genuinely don’t know yet what style you’ll end up playing, this is the spec sheet built for that.

Best all-rounder: JET JS-400 HSS

Same roasted poplar/roasted maple platform as the JS-300, but swaps in an HSS pickup set, a bridge humbucker for gain-friendly rock and lead tones, plus two single coils for the cleaner stuff. It’s the JS-300’s more versatile sibling: one guitar that handles distortion and clean work equally well, which is the usual ask from a “do everything” pick.

Best upgraded all-rounder: JET JS-480

Steps up from the JS-400 with Alnico V pickups instead of ceramic, gold locking hardware, and a rosewood fretboard. Alnico magnets give a smoother, less harsh top end than ceramic, worth it for anyone who found the JS-400 usable but a little thin-sounding on the top end.

Best for indie/alternative: JET JJ-300 P90

A dedicated P90 build, single-coil-sized but wound hotter and darker than the JS-300’s pickups, which is the textbook indie/alt-rock tone (think jangly-but-thick, not glassy). 3-way switch keeps the controls simple.

Best for rock: JET JS-450

Basswood body with a flamed maple top and HSS ceramic pickups, a bright, aggressive attack that stays clear under gain, aimed at players spending most of their time in the drive channel rather than clean.

Best for metal: JET JS-500

Dual Alnico humbuckers (HH), 24 frets, and a fast-feeling ebony-mix board, built for palm-muted rhythm and lead work rather than clean tones.

Best for country/roots: JET JT-300 or JT-350

The JT-300 is JET’s straightforward T-style: dual SS ceramic pickups, fixed bridge, 3-way switch, twangy and simple. The JT-350 adds a single Alnico humbucker with a push-pull coil split, so it can go from a clean, snappy T-style tone to a fatter, slightly overdriven one without switching guitars. Both fit comfortably under $500.
